Can i upgrade the video card in my HP slimline?

my comp is the s3200t. my current card is the Nvidia 8500 gt. i want to replace it with something stronger, probably the 8600 or the 8800. can i do that? if i can, what cards are compatible. i know that it has to be a low profile card, but i don't know what it looks like. can u guys gimme websites with those cards so i can look for them?|||You will never install an NVIDIA 8800 due to power limitations, plus I do not think there is an 8800 low profile.

You probably can use the 8600GT listed below.

I always advise against buying a slim style computer because your upgrade options are so limited.

Per HP: Upgrading and Servicing Guide (Page 20)

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00…

IMPORTANT: Due to the small computer size, you can only install a small, low-profile PCI-E card of the same approximate size of the graphics card. HP recommends that you install a card with power consumption of 25 watts or less.

Not all low-profile cards will fit into the PCI-E slot. Some external connectors, especially connectors located at the top of the card, may not fit properly into the back panel.

That 25 watt or less requirement rules out most high performance video cards.

Further I believe it has a 180 watt power supply; many high end video cards require at least a 400 watt power supply.

According to the new box just released, the PSU is now 180watts. Anybody else feeling tempted to burn that extra 20w? The s3200t is the box I refer to.

(Continued)

The one posted before is for a 8600 GT low profile. This one is for the 8500 GT low profile and it is in stock. The 8600GT consumes 30 watts. The 8500GT consumes 40 watts. Since HP sells the 8400GT and the 8500GT (with the 3200 series), the 8600GT ought to work just fine.
